NBA free agent Lamar Odom remains hospitalized in an unknown condition the day after he was found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel. According to the Nye County Sheriff’s Office, an ambulance was sent to the Love Ranch, owned by Dennis Hof and featured on the HBO show Cathouse. Odom was found there, unconscious, and needed immediate transportation to the hospital. There were some logistical issues in getting the 6-foot, 10-inch star there as the medical helicopter was too small to transport him to the Sunrise Hospital. An ambulance then rushed to the hospital after reviving Odom.
Odom had arrived at the Love Ranch on Sunday and, according to Hof’s employees, appeared to be taking herbal Viagra and drinking cognac while there.
The former forward was drafted fourth overall in the 1999 Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers and later played for the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks and Loboral Kutxa of the Spanish ACB League. He is probably best known for his time with the Lakers where he was a two time NBA Champion in 2009 and 2010 and earned Sixth Man of the Year honors in 2011. While playing for the Lakers, Odom married reality-television star Khloe Kardashian, featuring on the E! series Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Khloe & Lamar. They divorced in July of this year.
Incidentally, the Lakers were playing a preseason game against the Sacramento Kings at the MGM Grand Garden Arena while Odom was hauled to Sunrise Hospital. Lakers players delayed their flight back to Los Angeles after hearing of their former teammates condition. Kobe Bryant exited the game in the 3rd quarter for what was called a leg contusion and did not return. Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News reported Bryant actually left the arena to visit Odom in the hospital.
